Planning a trip to Maine? We've gathered answers to the questions we hear most often about our guided hunts, fly fishing trips, Sporting School programs, lodging, gear, and what to expect during your adventure.

What licenses do I need?

Hunters and anglers are responsible for obtaining the appropriate Maine licenses before their trip. We're happy to help point you in the right direction and answer any questions about regulations.

What is included in a Sporting School program?

Every Sporting School experience is custom-tailored to the guest. Programs may include wingshooting fundamentals, firearm safety, bird dog handling and field etiquette, woodsmanship, wild-game preparation, flyfishing instruction, and an introduction to classic sporting arms and traditions.

What is the deposit and cancellation policy?

A 50% deposit is required to reserve your dates. Because availability is limited, cancellation and rescheduling terms will be provided at the time of booking. Please contact us as soon as possible if your plans change.

What happens in bad weather?

Hunting and fishing often continue in light rain and typical Maine weather. If conditions become unsafe, we may adjust the schedule, change locations, or discuss rescheduling the experience.

Is lodging included?

No. Lodging is not included in the guiding rate. We can recommend lodging options and help coordinate accommodations when needed.

What physical condition is expected?

A reasonable level of mobility is helpful, as days afield may include uneven ground, thick cover, stream crossings, or extended periods of walking and standing. Each experience can be adjusted to suit your pace and physical comfort.

Are firearms, ammunition, or fishing equipment provided?

Guests are welcome to bring their own equipment, but firearms and fishing gear can be supplied with advance notice. Ammunition availability and any additional cost will be confirmed before your trip.

What experience level is required?

None. Our guided hunts, fishing trips, and Sporting School programs are tailored to each guest’s experience and comfort level—from first-timers to seasoned sportsmen.

Where do your hunts take place?

Our adventures take place throughout western Maine, utilizing a variety of carefully selected covers, forests, streams, and sporting camps that showcase the best of the region.

When is the best time to visit?

Fall is prime time for grouse and woodcock hunting, while spring through early fall offers excellent fly fishing opportunities. Contact us to discuss the experience you're looking for, and we'll recommend the best dates.

What should I bring on my hunt?

We recommend waterproof boots, weather-appropriate layers, blaze orange clothing, shooting glasses, shooting gloves, rain gear, and plenty of ammunition. A detailed gear list is provided before your trip. Many hunters also bring a second shotgun as a backup.
