When the Stillness Breaks

A lone loon breaks the stillness of Lower Richardson Lake with its haunting call, the sound carrying effortlessly across the cool morning air. It echoes from shoreline to shoreline, lingering just long enough to remind you how wild this place remains. Then, without warning, a trout rises beneath the mirror-like surface. Plop. Ripples spread across the glassy water, distorting the reflection of the surrounding pines before fading back into perfect calm. For a moment, the lake is quiet again—as if nothing had happened. Just the distant call of the loon, the scent of pine in the cool air, and the feeling that nature is putting on a show for the few lucky enough to be there to witness it.
